Our Story
Unearthed from Nature, Crafted by Time
Deep within Sumatra's ancient rainforests, miners carefully extract one of the rarest gemstones on Earth. Blue Amber forms over 23 million years from the fossilised resin of prehistoric trees — and only a few deposits worldwide produce the coveted blue fluorescence.
We work directly with ethical mining communities to bring you hand-selected, top-grade specimens — each piece inspected for glow intensity, clarity, and natural beauty.
Every stone passes through our hands before it reaches yours. We check the fluorescence under 365 nm UV, evaluate the clarity and colour depth, and only list the pieces that meet our standard.

COMMON QUESTIONS
Blue Amber FAQ
Everything you need to know about authentic Blue Amber — from UV glow and care tips to shipping and authenticity.
-
Blue Amber is natural fossilised tree resin — approximately 23 million years old — that contains unique aromatic hydrocarbons (particularly perylene). These compounds absorb UV light and re-emit it as a vivid blue glow. In natural daylight it appears as warm honey-gold; under UV light (365nm) it transforms into a mesmerising electric blue. Less than 0.2% of all amber mined worldwide displays this blue fluorescence, making it one of Earth's rarest organic gemstones.
-
All our Blue Amber is ethically sourced from primary deposits in Sumatra, Indonesia — unearthed from ancient rainforest regions where amber formed between coal seams dating 15–25 million years ago. We work directly with local mining communities with a fair-trade, traceable supply chain. No middlemen, no mass-market dealers.
-
Both Sumatran and Dominican deposits produce genuine blue-fluorescing amber with identical hardness (2–2.5 Mohs) and polymer structure. The key differences: Sumatran blue amber tends to show stronger daylight fluorescence — the blue glow is visible even under a phone flashlight or direct sunlight. It also forms in larger nodules (500g+), making it ideal for statement jewellery and carvings. Dominican blue amber is more widely known due to its longer market history, but lab tests confirm there is no difference in intrinsic gem quality. Read more on our Dominican vs Sumatra comparison.
-
Genuine Blue Amber passes several tests: UV fluorescence — it glows vivid blue under a 365nm UV light (fakes show milky white or no glow). Saltwater float — real amber floats in saturated saltwater; glass and most plastics sink. Warmth & weight — amber feels surprisingly lightweight and warm to the touch, unlike cold, heavy glass imitations. Natural inclusions — look for tiny air bubbles, plant fragments, or organic imperfections. Every piece we sell is 100% natural and untreated. We can provide additional UV photos or videos of your specific item on request.
-
Yes — this is the defining characteristic. Under a 365nm UV-A flashlight, genuine Blue Amber fluoresces an intense blue to blue-green. The glow intensity varies by piece depending on thickness, clarity, surface finish, and the concentration of fluorescent compounds. Some pieces also show visible blue sheen in strong natural sunlight. For best results, use a dedicated 365nm UV flashlight (available online for around $15–25) in a dark room.
-
Amber is one of the most light-reactive gemstones — it changes appearance dramatically depending on the light source. Under warm indoor lighting it can look deep honey; under cool daylight it appears lighter gold; under UV it transforms to blue. Camera sensors, white balance, and screen calibrations all affect how this translates into photos. We photograph every piece in multiple lighting conditions and are happy to provide additional photos or video of your specific item upon request.
-
Yes — with mindful care. Amber sits at 2–2.5 on the Mohs hardness scale, making it softer than most gemstones. It's perfect for everyday bracelets and necklaces when you follow a few guidelines: avoid impacts against hard surfaces, remove before exercising or doing manual work, and store separately from harder jewellery to prevent scratches. Many of our collectors wear their Blue Amber bracelets daily for years with no issues.
-
Keep it simple: wipe with a soft microfibre cloth after wearing. For deeper cleaning, use lukewarm water with a tiny drop of mild soap, then pat dry immediately. Never use ultrasonic cleaners, steam cleaners, or abrasive pads. Avoid contact with perfume, hairspray, alcohol, acetone, or any chemical solvents. Store each piece in a soft pouch or lined compartment away from direct sunlight and extreme heat. With proper care, your Blue Amber will remain beautiful for generations.
-
Not recommended. While amber is resistant to most solvents, prolonged exposure to hot water, soaps, shampoo, chlorine, and sunscreen can gradually dull the polished surface. Salt water itself won't damage amber, but the combination of sand, UV exposure, and repeated wetting/drying can affect the finish over time. Remove your Blue Amber before showering, swimming, or applying lotions and perfume.
-
Free international shipping on all orders over $399 AUD. Orders under $399 ship worldwide at a flat rate of $29.99 AUD. All duties and taxes are included — no surprise customs fees at your door. Every piece is carefully wrapped in protective packaging and insured during transit. Typical delivery times: Australia 3–5 business days, USA/UK/EU 5–10 business days, rest of world 7–14 business days. You'll receive tracking details via email once your order ships.
-
Many collectors and practitioners associate amber with warmth, protection, and calming energy. Throughout history — from ancient Greece to Traditional Chinese Medicine — amber has been valued for its perceived connection to the earth and its soothing qualities. Blue Amber in particular is often linked to creativity and clarity. These are cultural and spiritual beliefs, not medical claims, and we encourage you to choose your pieces for their natural beauty and personal meaning above all.
